Hiring our staff
At McDonald’s we hire people who put customers first. Once we have the people with the right attributes in place, we build on this through hospitality training. This includes more scenario work where our staff put themselves into the shoes of different customer groups. Our ethos is that we should not just serve great food, but we should be giving our customers a great experience as well.

Atul’s open door policy means that any member of staff is able to visit, call or email to raise an issue directly with him. Training and development
In September 2011, we opened a state-of-the-art training centre in Hanwell, with computer workstations and audio visual teaching aids for interactive training sessions, enabling staff to sit exams on-site in the presence of qualified invigilators.
The suite of qualifications available at the training centre includes Basic and Advanced Shift Management, making it possible for staff to gain a Level 3 Diploma in Shift Management, which is nationally recognised on the Qualification and Credit Framework. Staff can also study for a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Hospitality & Catering. The apprenticeship recognises job-specific skills acquired through workplace training, combined with GCSE-equivalent Maths and English.
Offering nationally recognised qualifications provides a boost for staff who may have come to us without any qualifications, but who can subsequently use them to build a rewarding career at McDonald’s, or use them in the future for other roles in the hospitality sector.
Celebrating achievement and rewarding success
We know that our staff contribute enormously to the success of the business and this is something that we value. At Appt Corporation, we host an annual Celebration Day to mark the company’s success and to recognise individual success. We also host regular team events throughout the year. Our award programme includes accolades such as ‘Employee of the Year’ for each restaurant, as well as awards for customer service and services to the community.
Employees also receive incentives of bonuses based on performance. A range of benefits are offered including an employee discount card, a stakeholder pension and a meal allowance. We also have a loyalty scheme for long service.
